Hey, it's Marina, travel experta. Today we're going to be talking about private healthcare in Spain for your non lucrative visa for Spain. You guys ready for an adventure?
Let's begin. You cannot avoid this. You need to have one year of private healthcare upfront paid. So here was the interesting thing you have to have that, there's no way around it.
The debate is from the day that you apply or from when you want to arrive to Spain because if you think about it, the day from you apply, that means you're going to be losing between two and three months of paid health insurance and what we ended up doing incorrectly.
We thought that we would get expediated really fast because we had our son enrolled in school for Guatemala, specifically, it doesn't matter which country you are applying from. You need private health care it doesn't matter where from and you need to be able to prove it. You have to prove it.
So you have to pay one year in advance take my advice.
If you want to arrive, let's say January 1 and you applied, whenever you applied, give yourself a little bit before, just in case but you could definitely do from the date that you want to actually arrive to Spain, not from the date that you are applying and again, give yourself that extra time. Always give yourself that extra time, because we ended up losing two months worth of payments for our health insurance because of this.
Take my advice, you do not need to do that. They don't look at it like that. They want to look at it from when you are interested in arriving, not from when you are applying and even give yourself an extra month because chances are it will be a little bit delayed. Okay?
There are tons of amazing companies out there.
Also, you do need to have a repatriation service, which is like $20 or $40. Basically, if you die there, how is your body going to be brought back to your own country, and that is something that is not written anywhere, but they do.
You expect you to have that. And pretty much every health insurance company private insurance company now offers it and like I said, it's like $40 per person for the whole year.
